Irish Gift IdeasHere are some gift ideas we've collected. They're all things we know we'd like to be given.
Please note that we do not sell any of these items ourselves. In some cases we do make commissions if we refer a paying customer. However, these commissions do not add to the cost to you and we promise not to let the possibility of a commission take precedence over the honest opinions we give you in our descriptions.
AllPosters.com offers fine art prints like this one (and hundreds of other Irish posters and prints) mounted on wood for about $60 plus $12 shipping. You can also have it framed traditionally, or just buy the print itself for much cheaper. The mounted option is neat -- it comes permanently bonded to a wood backing (with a beveled black edge) that's braced on the back so that it appears to "float" on the wall.
Of this coffee table book by Ashley Shannon, an Amazon.com reader writes: "I guess I'm partial to Irish things, but I think this is a beautiful book. Pages are split between pictures ... landscapes, buildings, homes, and text ... Irish blessings (May the road rise to meet you, etc.) and Irish poets. Not a book to read staight through, but a great display book for you and guests to thumb through during idle moments."
Historical fiction set in the midst of the Irish Revolution. All royalties from the sale of the book are currently being donated to the American Cancer Society as a memorial to the author.
This five-part highly-regarded BBC series offers historical perspective on the Irish "empire" of culture -- the empire built by millions of emigrants who moved to America, England, Australia and every other corner of the globe. |
Irish Gift Shops
The world-famous Francis Frith Collection includes thousands of photos taken between 1860 and 1970. If your roots are in Ireland, you'll almost certainly be able to find photos of your family's town or county. Every one is available as a mounted, framed, or unframed poster print. A very neat gift idea.
SimplyIrish offers a great selection of high-quality, traditional Irish crafts, straight from Dublin. A perfect gift site. Highly recommended!
Border Art offers a handful of high-quality Irish genealogy maps.
IrishNation is more for novelty gifts, but if you're interested in something with your family coat of arms, this is a good choice.
Ancestry.com's full membership gives you access to over 3,000 databases. Although membership is a little pricey, it might make a nice "activity gift" to do with your parents or grandparents. They also offer inexpensive classes on Irish genealogical research.
