Today the antipathy felt by the pro IRA Catholic Irish to the British Government is due to our military presence in the provence; whose original mandate was to protect the Catholic minority from marauding 'Nationalists' - they were were welcomed with open arms by the catholic community. This mandate became squewd when the IRA turned it's guns onto the British - and the resultant struggle has resulted in attrocities on both sides.
The IRA are marxist terrorists. They have always seen the democratically elected government of Ireland with equal hatred as that of the British Government. Both elected houses have worked long and hard to remove the gun from Irish politics. It should also be noted that Sinn Fein; the IRA political wing have come along way to peace but still have far to go.
The protestant Nationalists on the other hand seem content to just slaughter each other.
Millions of Irish live happily and prosperously in England, Wales and Scotland as many 'British' people have lived in Ireland for more than 1000 years. The NE troubles are sectarian and perpetrated by criminal gangs on both sides with a view to maintain control over their respective communities come what may. Their motivation is greed and power... not peace and prosperity for all."
