at the time a civil war was being fought in ireland.after the anglo-irish war ended and the treaty was signed the IRA became divided between those who thought it was not enough and those who thought it the best deal offered in 750 years.those who supported collins formed the regular irish army and those that did not were known as irregulars.michael collins was in cork driving with some troops through an area called beal na blath{vale of flowers} when they were ambushed by irregulars.in the firefight collins was hit in the head and died.there is some consternation as to wether the shot was directly aimed at him or ricocheted off the ground.confirmed is the fact that the ambush was random aimed at the next passing soldiers.
